Dear Reader,

Heading into the always busy memorial day weekend, which by tradition kicks off the summer season for those in this part of the country, we always seem to be reminded of the many fun things that we would like to do in our summer season. My list includes barbecues with the family, hikes in the mountains, training the horses to pack on the trail, and of course, once again realizing that I am no longer as young or fit as I used to be and the regular resolution that comes with that realization; to wit: that I will take this summer season to not just enjoy myself, but also to improve my overall health and fitness.

The thing that I always have to look at however, is with the busy schedule that I have, how do I find time, and energy to improve my lifestyle. I am what one might call a Natural Health Realist, not a Natural Health Purist.

In my imagination, a purist would do all sorts of things that I don’t like eating organic foods, exercising regularly, eating whole foods that give me the bulk of my nutrition, never eating junk foods or indulging in sugary treats, getting plenty of sleep, meditating every day, and things like that.

On the flip side of that, I live in the real world, work, run a business, go to school, and try to find time with my family. As such I sleep less than I should, meditate on an infrequent basis, eat foods that are convenient rather than whole and organic, and move rapidly from one stressful project to the next. Oh, and that exercise idea, it is an amazing theory, but reality is that my exercise generally involves the occasional lawn mowing, or if I am lucky, chasing a horse that doesn’t want to be caught.

So with that in mind, we would like to introduce you to some of the things that we use to help mitigate our shortcomings with regard to our health. First off, Liz has a couple of products that she is highlighting right now for helping with overall health and supporting your body through life as we know it. Then a quick introduction to a class series being offered Tuesday nights, then I will be back with you for a brief outlook for the rest of the summer.

Chlorophyll for cleansing and deodorizing

Most of us have experienced the downside of Chlorophyll in the form of grass stains or nasty herbal potions that well wishing friends and relatives have foisted upon us, but most of us have not yet experienced it in a form that we like, or that we know why we are eating it. to better understand why we would want to eat or drink this green wonder, first we have to ask, “ What is Chlorophyll?” In short, Chlorophyll is the blood of green plants. In human (or animal) blood, the central ion is Iron, which is why it is so important to have enough iron in your diet for your blood to work properly. Chlorophyll is virtually identical chemically to blood, except that the central ion is Magnesium. The other obvious difference is that Chlorophyll is green and blood is red. Aside from that, they are very similar substances, both responsible for nourishing and cleansing the cells that they serve. The liquid Chlorophyll that Natures Sunshine produces comes from Alfalfa, with a hint of spearmint giving it a delightful minty flavor. This can be used for general nutrition, easily cleansing and deodorizing the bowels, and in turn the skin, and also for building up the nutrients that your body needs to support the circulatory system.

Herbs for Health is offering liquid chlorophyll for $2 off until Tuesday May 31st. We also have chlorophyll in capsules for those that want it in a different form.

Silver Shield

While I have many stories to tell about Colloidal Silver, I recently came across an article that is so astute and well prepared from one of our sister stores in Virginia, that I had to share it. So, with thanks to The Herbs Place for this information:

Silver Shield – Immune Protection Against It All

One thing we keep on hand is Silver Shield. There’s a lot of research done on this particular product. Nature’s Sunshine Colloidal Silver Shield has a US patent (7,135,195) for it’s safe technology.

You can view the information and related claims on the patent site. This information is part of the claims segment of the patent site:

The composition according to claim 1, wherein the composition exhibits antimicrobial properties against microbes selected from the group consisting of Bacillus anthracis (anthrax), Bacillus subtilis, Candida albicans (yeast), Mycobacteria bovis, Mycobacteria tuberculosis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (wounds), Salmonella choleraesius (food poisoning), Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA infection), Trichomonas vaginalis, and Yersinia pestis (bubonic plague).

The composition according to claim 1, wherein the composition exhibits antimicrobial properties against microbes associated with diseases selected from the group consisting of malaria, fungal infections of the skin, bacterial infections of the skin, vaginal infections, urinary tract infections, tonsillitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, pharyngitis, gonorrhea, conjunctivitis, otitis, respiratory tract infections, and nasal infections.

The composition according to claim 1, wherein the antimicrobial properties are antiviral properties.

The composition according to claim 11, wherein the antiviral properties are exhibited against a virus selected from the group consisting of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus.

Dr. Gordon Pedersen stated that this special patented colloidal silver worked in 1.2 minutes against the bubonic plague. In the lab they used 160x more plague cells than normal and it killed off 99.9%. This plague killed off over 1/3 of the entire population of Europe. We are going to have modern day plagues … and we suffer a modern day plague now with MRSA (staph infections). Antibiotics are not helping and people are dying.

This substance has been presented to Homeland Security by Senator Orrin Hatch. General P.K. Carlton, MD, the Director of Integrative Center for Homeland Security has stated in written form,

“I would like to bring to your attention a resource that I feel can be used and utilized in the area of bio-defense from bio-terrorism to infectious diseases such as SARS. The ABL antimicrobial has undergone rigorous testing and has been found to kill anthrax, bubonic plague, hospital staph and SARS. It’s the first new antimicrobial for the hospital in many years. In addition the product is non-toxic to humans, this product is EPA approved for hospital staph and bubonic plague and currently awaiting section 18 approval for anthrax. In short, we currently do not have anything with such a wide spectrum of efficacy in our inventory. As such, I recommend that the antimicrobial be evaluated for addition to the national pushback stockpile.”

This is just a drop in the bucket of the reasons we use Silver Shield for our immune protection. Don’t you think you need to have it on hand as we approach cold/flu season?
Wow, with information out there like that I never cease to be amazed. Some of the claims made in that article are so fantastic, that I had to go look up the original patent information myself, and if anything they are understating the benefits here. While the actual patent is quite technical, it provided information on the testing that was done on this product to get it patented and all of the things that it really can kill, how fast it can kill them, and at what concentrations.

Funnies
It has been said by many that laughter is the best medicine, and as such, I would like to share with you a few quotes from Will Rogers that are especially precious. These are reprinted from the Casey Research Daily Dispatch, a free service that I highly recommend for economic, political, and business commentary. You can check them out at www.caseyresearch.com.

Will’s Witty Words of Wisdom
Will Rogers, who died in a 1935 plane crash, was one of the greatest wits this country has ever produced.  Here are just a few of his many witticisms:

There are two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither works.

Never miss a good chance to shut up.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and put it back into your pocket.

There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading; the few who learn by observation; the rest of them who have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

If you’re riding ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it’s still there.

Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier’n puttin’ it back.

After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you’re full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

Will on growing older:

Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me; I want people to know ‘why’ I look this way. I’ve traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren’t paved.

When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of algebra.

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.

I don’t know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it’s such a nice change from being young.

One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been.

Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today it’s called golf.

If you don’t learn to laugh at trouble, you won’t have anything to laugh at when you’re old.

Come learn about your Chakras.

One evening a week we focus on the inherent aspects of the spirit through the   ancient wisdom of Chakras.  Pronounced “shock-ruh”, these seemingly invisible wheels of energy affect every aspect of our emotional, mental, and physical health.  An example of this is that if your 2nd Chakra (Located 2 inches below the navel) is out of balance, the physical issues that could manifest in the body are low back pain, prostate or ovarian cancers, to name a few.  Also money issues and relationships could suffer as a result of an imbalanced Chakra.  How does one balance a Chakra?  There’s the teaser.  Come to our Classes and we will share our ancient Chinese secrets.

Information based on Caroline Myss’s book Anatomy of the Spirit.

Chakra Classes are held Tuesday nights at 7:30

Please bring an open mind and an adventurous spirit.

Bring a friend and get half off the regular $10 price.
That is is for this week. Thank you for reading and subscribing to a Herbs for Health publication. Keep your heads up, and remember that we all have challenges that we face with our health, and hopefully we can help you navigate through your questions and concerns.
